Elliot and Dominck 1979

As a part of my research for this project I was reading Playing With the
Edge, by Arthur Danto. I discovered that someone had cut from the book
pages 69 and 70. Page 70 was a reproduction of the photograph, Elliot and Dominick. I assumed whoever removed the page did it to keep others from seeing the image, they found the image unpleasant. But that is an assumption. They may have wanted it for their living room wall. Either way it is gone from the book. So, as my contribution to the exhibition After the Moment, I photographed the cut. The mark left by the blade that removed the page and image. The photograph I made approximates the size of the original photograph, 14 x 13 7/8 inches (as noted on Christies website), the use of lighting favored by Mapplethorpe, and the black and white photographic medium. There are a couple of other subtle, maybe not so subtle, puns in the work but those I'll leave to the viewer to discern.
